Welcome, Curtis McDaniel!

Dataw Island is pleased to welcome Curtis McDaniel as Marina Manager/Harbormaster of the Dataw Marina. “Captain Curtis,” as he is known to many, brings twenty years of management experience, including Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Curtis is joining us from the Savannah Yacht Club and has held myriad other management roles, including Site Manager/Charter Captain at Nautical Elite Services, GM at First Vehicle Services, and Fleet Manager at Caterpillar, as well as a short stint in 2015-2016 with the Dataw Marina.

“We had several very strong candidates,” said GM Ted Bartlett, “We believe that Curtis’ combination of management and boating experience is very well-suited for our needs. We are basically retooling the products and services that we provide and having a manager with his range of competencies is certainly a plus.”

And competencies he has plenty of. Curtis has a 50-Ton Masters Captain License from the US Coast Guard, is certified as a PADI driver, has towing and sailing endorsements, and has pursued several safety trainings, including CPR/AED, OSHA, and drug-free workplace trainings/certificates. His skills include problem solving, team management, budgeting, and marina operations.

Curtis and his wife, Debbie, live in Beaufort and have three children: a 33-year-old son who holds a PhD in Music Education from UGA; a 21-year-old daughter who is working on her Master’s in social work; and, another daughter who, as Curtis says, has given he and Debbie their four beautiful grandchildren.

For enjoyment, the McDaniels enjoy … you guessed it, boating! Curtis and Debbie have owned several boats, including their recently-purchased Albin 36 Express Trawler, but they enjoy all types of boats and have even enjoyed sailing the British Virgin Islands in a 48-foot sloop.

Curtis says he is very excited to return to Dataw Island Marina under the leadership of the DIOA. He will start on Monday, March 18. Curtis also said he looks forward to joining the team and delivering excellent boating and customer service at the Dataw Island Marina property.

Welcome, Captain Curtis!
