Comet NEOWISE Dances Across the Night Sky Over the Dataw Island Marina

Barreling through the sky at an astounding 4.7 miles per second, comet NEOWISE is a rare spectacle not to be missed. For the best views, experts recommend getting away from the “city lights” and that’s just what Dataw Island member Bill Riski did to capture this mesmerizing image of NEOWISE dancing across the night sky over the Dataw Island Marina, just outside of Beaufort, SC:

Seen by some as “omens,” comets have long fascinated us and remain still somewhat elusive. NEOWISE, named such when discovered by NASA’s Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (NEOWISE) mission this spring, can be seen in the night sky shortly after nightfall.
