The Dataw Cup Sailing Regatta was held on Saturday, October 18th in nearly perfect sailing conditions with winds ranging from 8 to 12 knots. The boats sailed 8 miles down the Coosaw River on a broad reach to Saint Helena where the fleet took a turn and headed 9 miles up the Morgan River on a beat into the wind to finish at the Dataw Marina. All 9 boats in the race sailed well with the finishing time spread only 40 minutes for this long race. This array of boats ranged in length from 18 ft. to 54 ft.

Thanks to the Race Committee of Jerry Hubbard, Stan Karmilovich, Bryan Tuttle, and John Keet for running the race on this beautiful day along with the Morgan River Grill for serving drinks and snacks on the deck, and Carol Crocker and Nancy Day for organizing the awards ceremony.  Also, the support of all of those who came to the Marina to cheer as the boats crossed the finish line is greatly appreciated!

The top 3 boats were separated less than 3 minutes for this 4-hour race with the order of finish being:

1st– Frank Pontius – Marshall 18

2nd– Scott Johnson- Hylas 54

3rd– Rick Brown – Beneteau 423

4th– Jim Flanagan – Marshall 18

5th– Roy Crocker – Marshall 22

6th– Bob North – Tartan 35

7th – Kelly Duncan – Hunter 24

8th – Bob King – C&C 24
